Roles and Responsibilities of Mentors of ICT in Education course for Students

The Mentors of the course will be responsible for guiding Teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the following capacity:

  1. Technical Support - This will include:

  • Knowledge about the basic requirements of a system for installing the Operating System (Ubuntu 12.04) and the Learning Management system – Moodle in it.

  • Knowledge about installation of the Operating System, Moodle and the software applications provided to the schools.

  • Familiarity with the functioning of Ubuntu 12.04 and the software applications being introduced in the course. Knowledge about tasks such as navigation in Moodle, creation of courses, creation of user accounts, enrolment of users, participation in forums on the platform and so on.

  1. Non-technical Support – This will include:

  • Assistance to the teachers in respective schools with regard to the Course content.

  • Familiarity with the objectives of the course.

  • Thorough knowledge about the Curricula on which the course is based. (You will have to refer to 'Curricula for ICT in Education' document for this.)

  • Familiarity with the five themes (Programming, Graphics, Internet and the ICT Environment, Data Representation and Processing and Audio Visual Communication) introduced in the course for students and the activities designed to run this course.

  • Knowledge about the mechanisms involved in the E-Portfolio Submission.

Contact details of the Mentors will be provided to the respective schools assigned to them. If at any stage, a Mentor is unable to resolve a query, she/he can post the query on an already existing Forum or can also create a Forum on http:/ website. The Mentors can also contact the Faculty at the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT, New Delhi for any query or feedback.
